Greetings From Our President!
Greetings and Welcome to the website of Zeta Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Since its founding in 1954, the chapter has been an integral part of the Akron Community in the delivery of programs and educational activities that fulfill our mission. We are committed to services of excellence for the greater good of our community. As Shirley Chisholm said, “Service is the rent we pay for room on this earth.”
The mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha was built 112 years ago on a firm foundation to provide “Service to All Mankind.” This mission is as relevant in the 21st Century as it was in times past. Much has been accomplished because we’ve been dedicated and remain willing to serve together for change inclusive, but not limited to: health care, the opioid crisis, reducing gun violence, protecting our environment, reforming education, and spreading economic opportunity throughout the City, State, and Country.
Locally, the members of Zeta Theta Omega are charged to uphold the mission of our illustrious legacy; implement an array of programs to educate and to empower; to answer the call to action as well as service; and to address critical issues that impact the quality of lives in our community and throughout the world. Under the leadership of our 30th International President, Dr. Glenda Glover, Alpha Kappa Alpha embraces five Program Targets: Support for HBCUs; Women’s Healthcare & Wellness; Building Your Economic Legacy; The Arts and, Global Impact. Additionally, we have one Signature Program designed to continue the advancement and underscore our commitment to service called College Admissions Process or #CAPSM. This program is designed to assist students by providing a hands on approach through the entirety of the college process: from researching colleges to completing the college application. A significant feature of this programmatic thrust is the AKA UniversitySM, which will serve as a platform to educate, train, and enhance leadership and personal development that will provide more impactful service to our community.
We INVITE you to support our initiatives and serve along with us as we positively impact the Akron community. Please take the time to browse our website and watch for updates about community-based programs and events.
Thank you for your interest in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, specifically Zeta Theta Omega Chapter as we continue to render “Service to All Man/Womankind.”
Yours In Service,
Dana K. LaGarde, President
